Whether a person is training for strength, endurance, power or skill, it is the ability of the body’s muscular system to contract that causes all movement to happen.
As a society we tend to take our body’s ability to do that, for granted. Whether we want to get out of our chair and walk across a room, do some gardening or lift a heavy weight in the gym, we just think it and it happens.
But how does it happen? An ingenious, automated software in all our bodies – the nervous system. The epicentre of this messaging system is the brain. This super-computer controls all the functions of everything in your body – your organs, your skin, your muscles and everything else in between. To be able to effectively control all parts of our bodies, the software messages need to get from your brain to their final destinations, and back again.
This is where your spine comes in. It connects your brain to your body, it’s the most important pathway in us. The messages travel down the spinal cord which is like an electrical cable. At every level of the spine, there is an exit, one left and one right. The messages come off these exits and continue their journeys along the nerves to their final destination. It’s like junctions on a motorway.
The spine is made up of 33 vertebrae that protect the spinal cord and give the body a solid foundation for the rest of the body to be built around. As Chiropractors, our focus is to make sure that your spine is as healthy as possible. When the spine is healthy the messages get to their final destinations at 100% strength. For people who enjoy their training, this is particularly important. If a muscle receives a 100% signal from the nerves then it is able to contract at it’s full potential, and full strength.
If you’re someone who enjoys sport or the gym, come in and get adjusted to make sure your nervous system and muscles are firing at their best.
